How to Become a LADOC Member |
Are you interested in becoming a LADOC member? Read the following to determine if joining LADOC is for you.
What is LADOC?
LADOC is an AKC member obedience club. LADOC's mission statment is as follows:
Mission: The purpose of the Club shall be to promote the training, exhibition, and welfare of dogs; to disseminate knowledge regarding training of dogs and their handlers and the breeding of pure-bred dogs; to hold and support obedience trials under the rules and regulations of the American Kennel Club or the United Kennel Club, but the Club shall not be limited to training in only those areas where the American Kennel Club or United Kennel Club has established rules and guidelines.
Activities: The Los Alamos Dog Obedience Club promotes dog obedience by sponsoring either an AKC or UKC sanctioned trial once a year, by holding one "fun match" each year and by offering classes to the general public. In addition, the club attends various commmunity events to distribute information, give demonstrations, and holds various social activities for club members during the year. All of these activities and more require that members contribute their efforts to club activities such as event planning, buildings and grounds maintenance, teaching classes, and attending monthly meetings.
Benefits: Club benefits and privileges are based on membership type. See below for the individual benefits and privileges based on membership level.
Responsibilities: Since a club can only run if its members contribute to its clubs success, in addition to the yearly dues, each member must earn 10 service points by volunteering for the various efforts it takes to run the club. If a club member fails to earn the required service points, they will be assessed at the end of the year at $10 per point. The assessment must be paid before the member will be allowed to renew his or her membership the following year.
Membership process: All new members joining LADOC spend their first year as a provisional member. During this year new members find out if membership in LADOC is a good match for their personal training goals. At the end of the year, the provisional member is voted on for becoming part of the regular membership. Complete membership descriptions can be found below.
